Word from the Monkey

The Monkey

Let me tell you a little something about the big world out there. A little something about a monkey we’ll call me, who just wants to do some good, make a few people happy, maybe get free valet parking most places.

When I sit down to invent a new photo editing feature, I’m out to blow your mind. If I can’t go all the way to mind-blow, I go home. I’m like the ninja assassin of blasé. I’m like Count Count-Your-Blessings; I am wearing my pinky ring and I am coming to blow. your. mind.

But we don’t want our minds blown, you say. We need them for things like our jobs and figuring out tip percentages.

Well I’ve got a tip for you: pay for your meal and get editing. Because the world won’t wait. The world won’t wait for you to keep your design ideas, your unborn photos, your banner graphics, your epic collages stored in your mind or your camera’s Flash drive. Other edited images will come and take those images’ places.

Here’s you: I’m thinking about maybe editing a rilly cool photo of a bird that looks like a space alien. BAM! Guess what? Somebody else created and shared that image before you finished your sentence, and she used Nip/Tuck to make the eyes look more vertical and alien-ish, and Daguerreotype to make the bird look like it was photographed in 1756. Were alien space birds flying around earth in 1756???!! Whoah, nobody ever thought of–KABLOOEY!! Grey matter explosion!! Flash mob excitement all over the world! Gas prices go down! Children’s braces come flying off!

And you thought it was okay just to have good ideas.

Editor’s note: We would like to apologize, on behalf of PicMonkey.com, to the parents of impressionable children who may begin search sessions on alien space birds in 1756, and to any living counts and/or countesses who feel their title has been slighted. The Monkey has rigged our blogging platform so that we have no control over his rants, here.

  • LOVE the Monkey!!! I’m glad I can comment here so I can tell you how “wicked awesome” (as we say in New England (even though I’m living in PA I’m from Mass.) your Halloween features are!!!!!! Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing many more wicked awesome features that you will create for the upcoming holidays!

  • Any chance the awesome Monkey will be featuring PicMonkiers in the future or is that idea just bananas?? :)

    • It’s a great idea. Thanks for passing along. We’re just getting rolling now, but that is a strong possibility for future plans. (Does that sound like corporate PR spin, or what?)

  • I just made a tutorial about how to create a double exposure effect on Picmonkey. I’d like if you have a look at it.

  • You guys are doing a superb job!! Me and all my college friends love the monkey and his awesomeness..including my teaches!! Keep up the amazing work the PicMonkey team.

I too have created a entire blog on picmonkey…here’s a link to it http://createwithpicmonkey.blogspot.in/

  • I love PICMONKEY. Ooooo oooo aaaa aaaa!

  • Woof! Woof! Glad you guys are back and created a better site. LOVE it, use all time for my blog photos. Love especially the collage feature. May I suggest a pet related feature. Golden Thanks, Sugar

    • There’s a little pet love coming down the road, for Winter holidays, but it’s not quite a feature. We all have dogs and cats so can totally relate.

  • Can you make an app for the iphone?? it would be alot easier and sure you would get lots of hits!(: <3

I personally think that I’d prefer picmonkey over picnik if picnik was still available. I was a picnick user for awhile, since I love photo editing, and this website is the best I’ve used so far, accounting for its easiness to use and its great editing options. Two thumbs up to picmonkey!

  • When are you going to be doing Christmas things for editing photos? I really need some new Christmas images, editing tools, pics, and fun things like Christmas trees, santas, ornaments, elves, etc… thanks

  • nataliewinslow561

that sounds like a good idea, Heather. That’d be really useful to me since I make Christmas cards on picmonkey often.

  • How do I get Picmonkey to NOT reduce the size of my photo when I upload to edit? I select the KING KONG setting but when I edit & save (and then again click on the largest option) it still reduces the MP….one I just did went from 5.43MP to 3.68MP….and what will this do when I want to print a photo?

  • Arunima Jamwal

    You are awesome. Period.
I lurrve your site and thank god for you when Picnik closed their shop because otherwise I wouldn’t have become an editing junkie. I was just starting out and you helped me immensly. Your-site-has-blown-my-mind. Stay awesome please. m/
P.s – Impressionable children seraching alien birds, you guys are freakin hilarious! xD

  • فكك منى عشان انتى مش من سنى

  • Love thiiis site now that picnic is gone. Am willing to pay a yearly fee for more editing choices. I was dissapointed not to see any “Fall” special effects. Hope you will have some for winter. Thanks ,Picmonkey!

  • Shauna Altman

I’m eagerly waiting that Winter Wonderland theme! Thanks!

  • Thanks for the Winter Wonderland updates. Love PicMonkey :D Will you be adding things like Santa hats and other holiday fonts? Keep up the great work, you guys just keep getting better and better!

  • I just found your website today…and I’m so excited! I was a super fan of picnik…but you’ve saved me from searching google any longer for a photo editing website that is user-friendly! I love this and love the blog…thank you so much for your creative minds!

  • How can I pay for royale features in future other than a credit card? I love picmonkey and do not want to miss athing. It is the best photo editor of all!

  • So it is not going to be free no more!!!!!! how much do we have to pay for the royale features!!!

  • Hi there! I have used picmonkey almost since the day the site started. I love to photograph and edit photos (that’s what I do all my evenings). Me and my twin sister runs a blog where we upload all our photos (all our photos are edited on Picmonkey) you can summarize it: Photographing and editing is my life, and I got so happy when I found Picmonkey, “now I can edit all my photos on a professional edit-site” And now, when I’ve just imported my new photos, then I see that all the effects that I allways use, costs money! I don’t want my photos to cost anything! I’m so sad that I can’t edit my photos anymore, and I’m sure that I’m not the only one. Picmonkey will loose a lot of user. Do you want a world where only the rich people can succeed as a photographer? Please remove the membership, I can’t afford $4.99 every month!
    Please! I beg you!

    Bonjour!
Tank you.

  • I love it! Thank you Monkey you may my photo editing shine my life!

  • make a app for the smart phones please!!!!!!!!!!

  • love seeing that you’re back! have been super bummed to not have an alternative to the awesomeness that was picnik. and now, please continue to …. KABLOOEY. my. mind.

  • Go you Monkey Awesomeness!!!!!

  • thx much! glad u stopped by.

  • Hi Joy! Appreciate the luv.

  • I’m in love!! I just tried your site for the first time and am blown away by the difference in my pic. But what I’m really in love with is your attitude and just plain awesomeness!! You guys rock!

    Your newest supporter,
    Julie

  • Is there any chance you will be creating such mind-blowing awesomeness (or have created and are just waiting to KABLOOEY our minds) for Christmas as you have done for Halloween? I’m itching to apply snowflakes, trees, wreathes, snowmen, gingerbread men and all manner of wonderful Christmas-ness to images in a way that only PicMonkey can help with!

Thanks so much for your fantastic contributions to the world of picture editing!

    Tam

  • We are planning a winter wonderland for sure!

  • I think you rock even more than I can express!! The fact that I am a pauper but very creative and you have offered this awesomeness for free is beyond the BEST. You are the BEST!! Thank you thank you thank you for YOU!!!! I love the monkey!! Shhhhhhh!

  • Stay creative, stay enthusiastic, stay awesome, Jill!

  • I’m glad to hear it! :-) Do you know when these effects will be released? I would love to be able to utilize PicMonkey’s user friendly interface when creating my office’s Christmas Cards, but I’m running out of time (we like to get them out the door mid to late November).

  • I missed Picnik. PicMonkey is great…cheers from Australia

  • I love it too! But I don’t love all the annoying flashing, bright and distracting adds all over the page. Its very distracting and annoying when trying to edit pictures. I’d much rather pay a registration fee and be free from all the advertisements. Just my two cents worth.

  • if you’re aiming for late November I think you’ll be fine, but don’t look for it tomorrow!

  • Sandy, we are working on a Royale subscription right now. For a small fee, you’ll get to use the product with no ads.

  • Awesome!!
